Online therapy help – CBT
This day and age, many therapists are offering online therapy help. This means that the therapist will work with you over software like Skype, Zoom or the like and conduct a session just like you would if you met the therapist in his or her office.
The challenges remain to find the right therapist for you. This is an equal difficulty when it comes to face to face searching or online. For a start, the therapist should be well-trained and have expertise within your specific challenge. In addition, does the therapist practice a research-based model of therapy. This is important for you to know. You see, just like in medicine there is FDA approved medication and there is what we call alternative healing, the same is true for psychotherapy. Research-based and those not proven in research to date. There might be tons of anecdotal evidence but that is not the same as proper research. Some therapies that are research based are; Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
What’s for what?
CBT has been proven for its efficacy in the therapy of depressive and anxiety disorders. So if you are suffering from one of the 5 types of anxiety disorders or depression, CBT should be your first place to go.
DNMS is a therapy to help you heal from a negative childhood, also known as attachment wounds or ruptures. If you had a bad childhood and your needs weren’t met and you feel stuck there, this therapy can do wonders for you.
EMDR is a therapy that is focused on helping you process trauma. It best known for single-event trauma. This means that there was a one-off specific event (car crash, attack, assault, rape etc.) and you got stuck in that occurrence as in ‘I can’t get over it’, ‘I can’t put it behind me’. This type of therapy is somewhat more difficult to do online as it involves eye movements or other bilateral stimulation such as holding a set of vibrators designed for this kind of therapy.
One specific program that I endorse is online-therapy. Their operation is based on providing CBT which helps you deal with the way you think which ultimately affects the way you feel. Please note, that research indicates that CBT should take on ‘average’ about 20 sessions. If you sign up with online-therapy, you will get a choice of your specific challenge or disorder. The great thing about their program and why I endorse it so much is because they don’t just rely on the once a week therapy session that you will be receiving but they provide worksheets, homework etc for you to do in between sessions. This is also important for you to know that this kind of therapy does entail ‘work’. The prices are also overall much cheaper than face to face therapy and offering you three different types of subscriptions.

Not clicking with the therapist
If for whatever reason you don’t ‘click’ well with your therapist, they will assign you another one, all you have to do is email them and they will assign you another qualified and experienced therapist. That is far easier in comparison to a face to face therapist that you don’t click with.
On top of that, they see it as important that you have daily access to your therapist. That way, there is close follow-up of your progress and intervening in moments of crisis. There are also yoga and meditation videos if that is something that appeals to you to add to your CBT work.
This way, you have access to top therapists without leaving the comforts of your home. You remain anonymous and your information is obviously confidential.
Is online therapy as effective as face to face therapy?
The answer is a resounding yes. This is certainly the case for CBT and online-therapy has an average satisfaction level of 4.7 out of 5.
